1% dearness allowance hike for Central government staff, The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the release of an additional 1% of dearness allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and dearness relief (DR) to pensioners.This will be applicable retrospectively from July 1, 2017. “The release of the additional instalment of DA represents an increase of 1% over the existing rate of 4% of the basic pay/pension, to compensate for price rise,” the government said.

Amended party bylaws give sweeping powers to the coordinator, co-coordinator, Several bylaws governing the AIADMK were amended by the general council of the AIADMK (Amma, PTA) on Tuesday. The amendments have essentially made the coordinator and co-coordinator posts the most powerful positions within the party, in place of the general secretary a post that has been abolished. As per the amendments to the bylaws, incumbents of the two posts will exercise jointly the powers of making not more than 100 persons members of the general council, calling meetings of the general council, making appointments to various positions in the party such as treasurer, headquarters secretaries and members of the parliamentary board (not exceeding 15) and changing or relaxing the rules. The organisational elections will be carried out as per the regulations laid down by the two key office-bearers.
Centre plans to unveil Rs 100 coin to mark MG Ramachandran’s birth centenary, The Central government will introduce Rs 100 coins to mark the birth centenary of MG Ramachandran, the late AIADMK founder and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu. “The coins of the following denominations (Rs 100 and Rs 5) shall also be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government to commemorate the occasion of Dr MG Ramachandran birth centenary,” the Ministry of Finance said in a notification dated September 11. Both coins will be circular in shape, the ministry said.

170 Indians evacuated from hurricane-hit Sint Maarten, As many as 170 Indians have been evacuated from the hurricane Irma-hit Sint Maarten and brought to the Caribbean island of Curacao by special flights chartered by the Indian government.According to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Indian Envoy in Venezuela, Rahul Srivastava has informed that 60 other people were also evacuated along with Indians from the hurricane-hit place. Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar had said in a tweet on Tuesday night that 110 Indians and Indian-origin evacuees were brought to Curacao from Sint Maarten.
Five crew missing after boat collision in Singapore waters, Five sailors were missing after their dredger collided with a tanker off Singapore on Wednesday, authorities said, just weeks after a deadly accident in the same area involving a US warship.A search effort was launched for the four Chinese members of crew and one Malaysian after the accident around the busy Singapore Strait, the city-state’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said. Seven other Chinese sailors were rescued from the Dominican-registered dredger after it capsized following the collision in the early hours, and were taken to hospital. The Indonesian-registered tanker sustained damage to its front section but is stable and none of its crew members were hurt, the port authority said.
