New Honda Civic 2017

The 10th generation Honda Civic is expected to return to India within a few months. The new model is already available in global markets including some Asian countries like Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. In India, the car was spotted near Honda’s manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan lately and is expected to re-launch by end of 2017 or early 2018.

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2017 Honda Civic include a multi-angle rearview camera, automatic climate control, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Options include a moonroof, hands-free text messaging, proximity key, push-button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, an eight- or 10-speaker audio system, a 7-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, and navigation. Available safety features include a passenger-side blind spot camera (LaneWatch) and a Honda Sensing package with forwarding collision warning, automatic pre-collision braking, active lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Reviewers are pleased with the Civic’s new-and-improved instrument panel. Its optional infotainment system is easier to use and read than previous versions, but it it’s still slow to respond, and its menu organization is confusing. Critics would prefer to have an audio volume knob as opposed to the touch screen, which requires you to swipe up and down to adjust the volume. There are, however, audio controls on the steering wheel. Climate controls are easy to operate.

Underpinning Accord’s platform, the new Civic will get a new face sporting ‘Flying H’ grille with optional LED headlamps, a longer bonnet and incorporated air intakes completing the plush look. Newly designed tail-lamps will adorn the rear side. Taking cues from the concept version, the new Civic is likely to sport shorter overhangs, rear deck, and sharp styling. Going by the dimensions, the 10th gen model will be longer and wider than the phased out model implicating spacious cabin.

Honda Civic Petrol Engines

A new three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine will form the backbone of the Civic range. It has yet to be sampled properly by the motoring press, but the official figures sound encouraging – it produces 127hp and Honda reckons it should be good for fuel economy of around 60mpg and low CO2 emissions of just 104g/km.

With 180hp, the 1.5-litre model offers a significant boost in performance. Unlike VTEC engines of old, it doesn’t need to be dragged to extract the best from it. In fact, the addition of a turbo means peak torque of 177Ib ft is available from just 1,900rpm – this effortless delivery means it feels like a diesel to drive. Its running costs don’t live up to that promise but the fuel economy of 47.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 137g/km are, nevertheless, perfectly acceptable.

Both kinds of petrol come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox that operates with a pleasing slickness. If past experience is anything to go by, the optional CVT automatic will be one extra that’s well worth avoiding thanks to its power-sapping/noisy operation.

Honda Civic Diesel Engine

The 118hp 1.6-litre diesel is the only engine to be carried over from the current Civic. Figures for it have yet to be revealed but expect subtle improvements on the outgoing model’s 78.5mpg fuel economy and 94g/km CO2 emissions. It also comes fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, but skips the optional CVT automatic in exchange for a conventional auto, with nine-speeds, that should prove deeply more favorable.
