New Honda Brio
Honda Brio RS, the sporty top-of-the-line derivative of the Brio hatchback was recently revealed in its latest avatar at the 2016 Gaikindo International Indonesia Auto Show (GILAS) or simply Indonesia Auto Show. The Japanese auto giant showcased the car alongside the new Brio facelift, which is set to be launched in India soon. Both cars now come with a number of cosmetic changes and additional features as well. While the cars have already gone on sale in Indonesia, we are expecting Honda to bring the Brio facelift to India later this year. And you might never know Honda might even surprise us with the Brio RS variant, considering the carmaker already sells the Mobilio RS in the country.
In terms of looks, the new Honda Brio RS appears to be more or less the same as the new Brio hatchback, but a closer look will tell you that it is not the case. The Brio RS is a bit more stylish and comes with better features. Instead of the regular headlamps, the Brio RS comes with projector headlights and L-shaped LED daytime running lights. The grille design continues to be the same fat chrome slat with the Honda logo in the center, but in the RS trim, you also get the ‘RS’ badge on the side. The front bumper looks way too muscular for the car with a wide central air dam and larger air intakes housing the new oval fog lamps. This is applicable to the RS version as well, which gets the same bumper as the regular variant.

Honda Brio Interiors
The inside of the Brio is where major changes appear. The hatchback gets an all-new dashboard. This is identical to the one on the new Amaze and BRV. The all black dash gets carbon fiber inserts. The instrument cluster is all new on the Brio. The old steering wheel is carried over, though. The center console consists of an in-dash music system and climate control as well. These features are available only on the higher variants. The seat fabric color has also been changed to black and gray from beige.
Other than this, there is no change on the Brio. The front seats continue to have fixed headrests. They are large and comfortable. The space offered is good enough. The second row isn’t tight on knee room. This makes it a good option to consider, as it has good interior space in both the rows. The only downside of the Brio is its small boot. This is tiny and even the access to it is poor. The loading lip is very high making it difficult put and remove things.

Compare New BIRO with Old BRIO
As expected, the Indonesia-spec 2016 Honda Brio (called Brio Satya) features similar changes that we have seen in the 2016 Honda Amaze. Most of the changes are concentrated up front, sporting a more aggressive face with a larger radiator intake, faux intakes that house the foglamps, bolder dual slat black plastic grille that houses an upright Honda logo. The only change to the rear-end is the addition of a bold chrome bar.
Like the facelifted Amaze, the new Brio Satya features a dashboard sourced from the Honda BR-V, thus replacing the plasticky dashboard of the outgoing model. Accentuated with faux silver, the new dashboard integrates a mix of matte plastic and piano black trim materials that are well put together and add a premium feel to Honda’s entry level hatchback.
While the steering wheel design looks identical, the new Brio gets a single-pod instrument cluser, 2-DIN JVC head unit and new HVAC controls with a dedicated digital display.
Engine and Gearbox:
The new Honda Brio Satya packs the same 1.2 litre four-cylinder i-VTEC motor from the outgoing model, but has been slightly revised to produce 90 PS and 110 Nm. The 5-speed automatic has now been replaced for Earth Dreams Technology CVT, while a five-speed manual gearbox remains standard.

Honda offers the Brio with just one petrol engine option currently. This 1.2-litre will continue to power the new model as well. It makes 87 bhp of max power and 109 Nm of peak torque. A 5-speed manual transmission option is standard. However, it is unclear whether the current car’s 5-speed AT will continue or be replaced by a new CVT gearbox like the one the Amaze is available with. We’re not expecting any major changes in terms of fuel efficiency.
