A Death In The Gunj: A discordant calm
Konkona Sen Sharma’s debut is a marvelously measured film, where each element of filmmaking is staggeringly synchronous with the other, The first time I saw Konkona Sen Sharma’s A Death In The Gunj I was immediately taken in by the real and relatable family dynamics. On the second viewing, I can’t get over the overriding harmony of her frames in dealing with something as discordant and disruptive as death.
Shruti Haasan wishes team Sangamithra all the best and is sure that it will be a fantastic film
Actress Shruti Haasan, who earlier opted out of upcoming film Sangamithra due to unavoidable circumstances, on Wednesday wished luck to the makers of the film and said that it is going to be a fantastic movie. The makers of Sangamithra announced on Monday that Shruti has left the project. Later, a statement was released by Shruti’s spokesperson stating that the actress had not received a proper bound script or a proper date calendar.
‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ box-office collection: Film’s Hindi version crosses the 500-crore mark at the end of the fifth week
SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ continues to be a dominant force at the box-office as it ends its fifth week and enters its sixth week. The Prabhas and Rana Daggubati starter collected approximately Rs 13 crore in its fifth week, according to a report on Boxofficeindia.com. What is to be noted here is that its fifth-week collection is higher than what some new releases earned in their first week itself. The Hindi version of ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ started its first week with Rs 246.47 crore followed by Rs 142.52 crore in its second, Rs 69.43 crore in its third and Rs 29.11 crore in its fourth week. With the fifth week’s collections, the total collection of the Hindi version stands at Rs 500.53 crore.

Non-bailable warrants against Suriya, Baahubali’s Kattappa Sathyaraj
In a shocking development, a court in Ooty on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against eight leading Tamil film actors, including Suriya and Sathyaraj, for no-show in a connection with a defamation case. The arrest warrants have been issued against Suriya, Sarathkumar, Sathyaraj, Cheran, Vijayakumar, Vivek, Arun Vijay and Sripriya. Ooty Judicial Magistrate Senthilkumar Rajavel decided to issue the warrants in the actors’ name as they all failed to show up for the hearing. A defamation case was filed by a freelance journalist in 2009 against actors comments during a Nadigar Sangam protest meet.
Catfight between Tapsee, Jacqueline?
The latest buzz is that Tamil actress Taapsee, who is having a run in Bollywood is not comfortable with her Judwaa 2 co-star Jacqueline Fernandez. Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae movie review: Chills and laughs, this horror-comedy gives you both
The laughter in the theater began with the statutory warning as actor Motta Rajendran read out side-effects of smoking and drinking in his sand-paper voice. Traditionally, the lead actor of the film gives this mandatory warning, with audience paying little or no attention. However, debutant director Ike has used Rajendran for the job, which shows he understands the pulse of the audience. With this, he also turned the most boring part of watching a film into a sort of a warm up for his horror-comedy, Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae.

Actress Genelia Deshmukh on her younger son Rahyl’s first birthday said she believes he is a miracle created by her. Rahyl is Genelia and her husband Riteish Deshmukh’s second son. Genelia on Thursday took to Instagram, where she shared an adorable photograph of herself and Rahyl, who is seen sitting on his mother’s shoulders. “Happy Birthday Rahyl. Every time I need to see a miracle, I look into your eyes and believe I created one. You are so special little one, you always will be and you’re mine that’s all that matters. God bless you always,” she captioned the image.
Kalamandalam Gopi has been the favorite of Kathakali’s aficionados
Since 1958, from the beginning of his career, Vadakke Manalath Govindan Nair, popularly known as Kalamandalam Gopi, has been the favourite of the art form’s aficionados. From the early 1960s to the late 1970s, he was the energiser on Kathakali stage for the young audience and apostle among young artistes. It was at a time when masters such as Vazhengata Kunju Nair, Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Ramankutty Nair dominated the mainstream performance arena of Kathakali. Soon, Kalamandalam Gopi became the evergreen hero of the art.
Vijay 62 directed by AR Muragadoss will not be produced by Lyca Productions
Thalapathy Vijay is currently shooting for his second film with director Atlee. The film, starring Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nithya Menon, SJ Suryah and Vadivelu among others, is expected to release in October. Director AR Murugadoss, on the other hand, is working with Mahesh Babu on the bilingual project? Spyder. After this, AR Murugadoss had confirmed that he would be working with actor Vijay on Vijay 62. This would be their third project together. The actor-director duo was expected to start the work on their film post-Diwali, and the project was initially supposed to be bankrolled by Lyca Productions. The same banner under which Vijay and AR Murugadoss’ Kaththi was also released.

The story revolves around Sathya (Harish), who has been jealous since childhood that his mother (Sithara) seems to love his younger brother Aravind more. What he doesn’t know is that Aravind has a medical condition that requires constant care. He becomes friendly with Mandhiramoorthy (Arjuna), a local gangster. But Mandhiramoorthy’s brother-in-law Jayaveeran (Paavel Navageethan) hates Sathya because the former cares for Sathya, and plots to split up the two. Meanwhile, Soundarapandian (Sijoy Varghese), a newly posted cop, has set out to take down Mandhiramoorthy’s gang and lies in wait.
Sushi leaks takes a new turn, Suchitra Karthik’s email account hacked, celebrities targeted again
Popular RJ-playback singer Suchitra has submitted a complaint to the Chennai police commissioner alleging that her personal email accounts have been compromised. In the complaint, she has also stated that several “derogatory emails” have been sent from her email account to celebrities in the film industry with her signature. She has also mentioned that many of her Twitter impostors have been tweeting using “leelai” and “Suchileaks” as hashtags. These hashtags had become the trending topics for days on social media after some controversial posts and nude clips of celebrities of Tamil cinema emerged on her now-deactivated Twitter page earlier this year.
Ilaiyaraaja sings a number in Simbu’s film
The latest buzz around STR’s Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (AAA) is that Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja has agreed to croon a number titled Spiritual Gaana —Rottula Vandi Ooduthu in it. Interesitngly, the song will be released on the maestro’s birthday, June 2. The film’s hero, Simbu, tweeted on Monday thanking the music composer for agreeing to sing in the film. The film’s music is by Ilaiyaraaja’s son Yuvan Shankar Raja, whereas Krishnan Vasant handles the cinematography. Simbu will be playing three different roles in the film.
